Alice Singer doesn't get much attention at home--she's not youngest, and she isn't the smartest at anything. Her little sister Rosie is almost always very naughty, and her older brother Oliver is almost never wrong. But then one day, on a car ride to their grandparents' house, Alice beats Oliver at the Alphabet Game. In fact, she does so well that she sets her family's world record for the game! Oliver does not take this gracefully. For the rest of the trip, he sulks. Meanwhile, Rosie is unusually good and quiet. Alice is sure things will return to normal once they arrive at Grandma and Grandpa's house, but things don't go as planned there, either. All in all, it's a landmark day for the Singer family! Recommended for ages 7 to 10. (85 pages)
